You’ve probably heard that slightly overused phrase that it’s the journey that counts, not the destination, right? Well, coming to Komiža will give you the feeling that reaching the destination is only the beginning of an exciting journey.
Getting to Vis island
The island of Vis, together with the island of Lastovo is the most remote inhabited Croatian island. Whether you fly, drive, take the bus or the train to Split, arriving fast on the island is not possible. Rather, you’ll need to slowly sail into it. You can do this by catamaran (some 1.5 hours), or ferry (approximately 2.5 hours) from Split to the town of Vis. Either way, we guarantee that the endless open sea, the sun and the wind will work their magic. By the time you’ve reached the island you’ll feel a certain slowness and calm taking over you.
Getting to Komiža
From the town of Vis you can drive, take a bus or a taxi to Komiža. The road will take you along vineyards, small authentic villages and rolling hills. Then suddenly from high up in the mountain you’ll spot Komiža tucked into a small bay and the islets around it. You’ll instantly fall in love. And you’ll know that although you’ve arrived, your journey of discovering this charming fisherman’s town and the island of Vis has only just started.

Driving?
If you’re coming by car, you’d need to plan to take the Split-Vis car ferry. During the summer, especially on Saturdays, the ferries tend to be crowded, so it’s necessary to be at the harbor a few hours before departure. From the town of Vis you can reach Komiža in about 15 minutes. We don’t have a private parking, but it’s possible to get to the house by car. You can then park at the free public parking lot (100m from Insulae Apartments) or at the paid guarded parking lot (500m from the house).
